Capitol Plaza Theatre - Real Charleston Haunt

  • 123 Summers St.
  • Charleston, WV
The Capitol Plaza Theatre in Charleston is also known as the Capitol Theater or the West Virginia University Capitol Theater. The historic building dates back to the early 1900s and it was built on the property that once housed a mansion that was home to the Welch family. The mansion was built in the late 1700s, and generations of the Welch family lived there for over 100 years. Rumor has it that the family still resides there in spirit, specifically, John Welch and his youngest daughter, who died very young. Both of their ghosts have been spotted at the theater during performances.
