Droop Mountain Battlefield - Hillsboro WV Real Haunted Places

This Battlefield in Hillsboro, West Virginia was the site of the Battle of Droop Mountain, which was fought on November 6, 1863. The battle was the last major American Civil War conflict in West Virginia. The site now operates as a state park and many visitors have claimed the grounds are haunted. This is no surprise with its dark history.

Witnesses have reported seeing the apparitions of soldiers who wander the battlefield. The ghostly figures are often described as wearing Civil War uniforms, and can be seen standing guard or marching. When approached, the apparitions disappear into thin air.

According to The West Virginia News, a park ranger who was working the night shift thought he spotted a reenactor in period clothing. When he got closer, the figure vanished. Other haunting reports on the once battlefield include the sounds of gunfire, cannon blasts, and clashing swords.
